The Role of The Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA)

  • The reception, treatment, recycling, recovery, transport and final disposal of municipal waste;
  • To provide, manage and maintain Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs);
  • To investigate and develop recycling and resource recovery initiatives;
  • To manage and assume aftercare responsibilities for completed landfill sites; and
  • To manage other lands in ownership of the GMWDA.
