Recycling and Waste Collection in Your Area

Waste operative moving a recycling bin The 9 Waste Collection Authorities (WCAs) in Greater Manchester are responsible for the collection of your household waste. Each Authority provides a kerbside collection for recycling and residual waste. The collection of material in Greater Manchester has being standardised through partnership working and developed into four waste streams. This is the base on which we will deliver long-term financial and environmental benefits in Greater Manchester, supported by work in the key areas of waste prevention and promotion of recycling.

In Partnership with the WCA’s, we have reduced the amount of waste collected from over 1.4 million tonnes in 2004/05 to around 1.1 million tonnes in 2009/10. With the wonderful support of residents, recycling rates across Greater Manchester have increased from 5.1% in 2001/02 to 36% in 2009/10. We are not, however, complacent and with resident’s further help and our current performance we are on track to achieve our 50% recycling target before 2015.

By visiting your district pages using the left hand menu you can find out more about the services provided to you to help you recycle from where you live.
