GMWDA has won an array of awards in recognition of the work carried out for the PFI Recycling and Waste Management Contract
Awards Won
The Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice 2009 recognises, rewards and promotes GMWDA's environmental best practice for the work carried out on its Municipal Waste Management Strategy and its overall strategic objective for more sustainable waste management.

The Local Government Chronicle Sustainable Environment Award 2010 recognises GMWDA as a local authority which is tackling local environmental issues and concerns sensitively, imaginatively and effectively through its Recycling and Waste Management Contract.

The Public Private Finance Best Waste Project Award 2010 recognises the Recycling and Waste Management Contract as the first of its kind in the UK on this scale and as such rewards its innovation and excellence.

The Public Private Finance Judges Award for Innovation 2010 rewards best practice and recognise the Recycling and Waste Management Contract for leading in its field.

The Project Finance European Waste Deal of the Year Award 2009 recognises the Recycling and Waste Management Contract as one of the most complex to date for a UK PFI project, with two separate borrowers financing development over 30 sites, multiple treatment facilities and a waste-fired thermal power station.

GMWDA was also Highly Commended for the Local Government Chronicle Award for Innovation 2010 and was a finalist in both the SOPO Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Procurement 2009 and the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Annual Service Awards 2010 in the category of Best Public/Private Partnership Working, in recognition of the Recycling and Waste Management Contract.
